To be great, you must rise above…

I am very sleepy today…

Stayed up late watching this “Historic” election…

Here is what I am going to say about it all…

I am hopeful that now my country can come together. Heal. And fix itself.

I am at peace with the choice made by my fellow Americans. I dont think any one is stupid for making their choice. That is what is so awesome about this country…We have the RIGHTS and the POWER to do these things.

We are so freakin blessed, even in these hard economic times, and many of us dont even realize how blessed we are.

Whether you voted based on race, religion, or because thats what your family has always done, at least you voted. (I HOPE!!!)

Of course, I HOPE you voted based on overall issues that matter to your family and your country. Not because someone was black, or a female. But to each his own.

Regardless of what side you chose, I cant imagine you are not incredibly proud to have lived through an election that was going to bring historic change no matter who won.

I wont say who I voted for, because it doesnt matter. Today we have a new President Elect, and, well, it is done.

But I am incredibly proud that I was alive to see this. And I hope now people will quit slinging mud. And quit being mean and stupid. And just come together, and support this new leader. Give him a chance to prove you right or wrong. He is facing an uphill battle of epic proportions.

I will also publically state that I have the utmost respect for John McCain. ANYONE who spent 5 years in a POW camp earns that from me. Period.

He TRULY is an American Hero and has MORE than proved his love for this country. His speech was gracious, and respectful. And our country needs that…

So for all of you who are sad today…Please…Get it out…And then rise above it…

For all of you who are happy today…Please…Have compassion for your fellow Americans…Realize they are disappointed. Give them a little time, and do not gloat. It gets us no where…

So today, I am, as I have ALWAYS been, proud to be an American. Proud of my country. And so incredibly grateful that I was born into this country with all the world at my finger tips if I choose it…

Make no bones about it people. Our country is wounded. But she is NOT dead. Together, we can help her rise to greatness again. We can not allow Egos and Pride to hold us back from growth and healing…

May you all look around you today and find one thing to be thankful for…And I hope you find many…

This was very well written…And, we do need to come together…Just like you said in your blog..Gloating gets us no where…Neither does name calling or negative comments….What’s done is done and all everyone can do now is to wait and see what happens next…Now that Obama has won.

I don’t usually discuss politics, but what you have said is so true! We just all need to come together as Americans! We are truly blessed! I did vote, but it doesn’t matter who I voted for either!
    Big HUGS!

Thank you for a well written blog. I am one of those people who is sad today- and no, I have not said ONE word to anybody about being stupid or ignorant, or any of that garbage, so don’t hate me for the actions of someone else! But I think it was nice of you to remind people that are those of us who are not excited today and to consider our feelings as well. I appreciate this heart felt blog!

Very well said! I am one of those who is sad today…very much so, as I have been a HUGE supporter of McCain for the past ten years. I, like Betty, have not said one ill thing about the outcome of the election to those who are happy about the outcome and am ashamed of those who have. But I understand their sadness, and where they’re coming from, it’s just a shame that some people have to be nasty. Just as it is a shame that so many are gloating and acting the victim just because so many are upset and lashing out. I think that it’s important for everyone to take a chill pill at this moment in time.

I think it’d be AWESOME to either have a black man or a woman (of any color) in office, as I do so love diversity….but would NEVER vote according to the color of a persons skin, or their sex. That is just wrong. I won’t even vote just inside my party lines, as I don’t feel that is necessarily right either. A person has got to vote on the person who will back their issues and values. Obama does not back mine. We share very little in common.

I do believe that the wrong choice was made last night by our country as a whole, but I don’t believe that it’s okay for us all to go crazy at each other now. No matter who our president is, he is our president and we have to support him; that is our duty as Americans.

I am just excited today about being an American, and I am proud to say I am an American! I also am so grateful to be apart of such a historical moment! I am on cloud 9!!!!!!!!

I would like to think MOST people vote based on the overall qualities of the candidate and NOT because he is white, black, or a SHE…But, sadly, I know amongst my own friends and family, it is not so…

Many when with McCain because he is a christian. Many went with Obama because he was black. It is what it is. I can only control me and MY vote.

And this decicion actually was NOT easy for me…

I have admired McCain long before this run…And I saw Obama YEARS ago on Oprah and liked him then…

They both, for me, had things to bring to the table…

So now, I will sit back and see what Obama will bring…And I will support him, as I have done EVERY president I have lived under, regardless of my politics…

    Thanks everyone for your comments!!!

I too know that amongst my own family and friends it is not true….I know many who really did vote for him because he is black. That is not to say that everyone does that. Even though I am now currently getting flack for it…being accused of saying exactly that.

The fact is that many people did vote for him because of the color of his skin…but I never said that all who voted for him did.

Man…I get so damn tired of people taking my words out of context and saying I said something when in fact I did not.

  11. dawnrenee1313 @ November 5th, 2008

Oh, I agree…Many people DID vote for him because he was black. Just like many people wanted Hillary because she was a woman. And many Conservative Christians went with McCain simply because of his stated values.

One of my very best friends refused to even talk about other candidates because Sarah Palin was a woman, and she wanted a woman VP. Period. Had no idea what Palins history was or anything.

I think it was on both sides, but of course, Obama being black overshadowed all the others. For it is indeed a historical event. And I cant say what i would have done if my skin were black. Because its not. Maybe I would have voted for him too for that reason. I just cant say.

Its not the way I would like to choose my candidate, but I know many who did.

I know many who did no research what so ever. Many who passed on the ill gotten information they overheard about one candidate or the other…And passed it on as absolute fact, when in reality, it was not…Elections make usually smart people, suddenly ignorant of the world around them.

I honestly liked both candidates and appreciated both of them.

I really just want my country to heal. It is more divided…More wounded now than it has ever been…And to do that, we need great change…I hope Obama can get us there…
